Creative Struggles

Being a creative isn't easy, and I don't think that it ever will be.

Without the right mindset, opportunities and willingness to learn and improve your skill set, it can be very easy to fail or fall into the trap of thinking "I'm not good enough." or "I'll never be as good as ____."

This is one of the many reasons that Instagram can be the biggest downer to look at sometimes, but I still look at it for hours a day. With the new iOS 12 feature Screen Time, I can look at which apps I use the most and which give me the most notifications. Both of those Instagram wins by a country mile. With on average 250 notifications a day, it can be hard to not check it and scroll down my feed just a little each time.

Now, the reason that I say Instagram can be the biggest downer is that (for me at least), I follow hundreds of Photographers, Musicians, Artists and whatnot who are incredible at what they do. But seeing these amazing places and people on my feed everyday sometimes make me feel as though my photos are never going to reach that standard, so I get stuck in that rut of not wanting to post or even go out and shoot at all.

This, in my opinion, is the worst way to look at Instagram. Don't get me wrong, many times I will look at my feed and be inspired by what I see, and in many cases it has helped me create my best works, but at those other times I just hate it.

The best way that I have found to pull yourself back out of that rut is to realise that you are the only you to ever exist, make your work different to everyone else so that you stand out. There can only be one person who is the best, why can't it be you? You won't ever get better if you don't try.

I recently read a blog by Pat Kay called 'A photo taken today, makes me a better photographer than yesterday'. It's only a paragraph so I'll post it below: (READ IT HERE!)

"Just a reminder that practice is important.

No matter how small the contribution to an active practice of your passion, a step forward is a step forward. Even if it’s something off the hip, even if it’s something not worth sharing, something is better than nothing, always.

What did you shoot today?"

This is something that I am trying to live by, even if it is a shot from my phone, a video that I edited in 2 minutes, something is better than nothing. So just get out there and do what you love.

I don't really know what the main point of this blog post was. I sort of just felt like putting the things on my brain out there for others to read. If you do want to read anything else that has come out of my bran, you can subscribe to this blog below so you never miss one! I don't post often so you don't need to worry about being spammed. :)

Until next time!

Welcome to Black Jellybean Co.

Wassup, Welcome to Black Jellybean Co. Otherwise known as your new home. I created Black Jellybean with a vision of a family filled with creatives of all types, from bloggers to photographers, painters to chefs. I want to create a home where a company can come to get content for their website, YouTube or even store front and we'll have the creators to make it all happen.

It a big dream, I know. But why not. Already with a small team and a few projects in the works I'm feeling good about the future of Black Jellybean.

Now, why Black Jellybean. Because no one likes them, that's why. I can count how many people like them on one hand. My mum and my boss at work. I wanted a name that sounds dumb and that people think ew. Black Jellybeans are gross, but you'll like us, so next time someone says that they hate Black Jellybeans, you'll think of us.

Don't really know where else I'm going with this.

If you want to join the Team just send through an application here! We're looking for Photographers / Videographers / Vloggers / Bloggers / Artists / Anything really. Hit us up!

Peace, Pat

Belated Welcome!

3rd blog post in and I haven’t even said hello! Well... hello I guess.

I’ve always loved Architecture, Design and Technology. I’ve also always wanted to create a blog where I can share my thoughts, influences and experiences but haven't had the time with study and work but now I've decided to set aside time each day and write a little blog or post some images for you guys to look at and feel inspired too.

First, a little about myself. I am a Photographer based in Sydney, Australia. I work full time at a Photography Lighting and equipment store in Alexandria called Hypop and I photograph Architectural Projects on the side for a little extra cash. I've always has an interest in Architecture and wanted to even pursue a career in it during High School. I sort of lost that spark but picked it up once again through Photography! Check out some of my shots here:

I'm a pretty big nerd when it comes to tech and I'm always buying new tech just because it looks cool. I don't even know what most of it does to be honest.

I hope that you guys are as excited as I am and come along with me on this journey and lets hope that this can grow to something bigger and better!

As always, peace out and love life,
